Swine Flu - Information for Health Professionals in Sheffield

In recent weeks activity in primary care and secondary care for influenza has increased but at the moment levels are what we would expect for ordinary winter activity. The predominant strain is H1N1. So far, the age distribution of cases has been younger than in an ordinary winter. There have been recent changes in recommendations for which patients should receive vaccination. This is available in the DH Vaccination and Immunisation Guidance - the Green Book.

This information will be updated if flu levels rise above normal expected winter activity. Levels of flu-like illness, prescriptions of antiviral medicine, admissions to hospital and admissions to ICU and deaths are all being monitored on a regular basis.
