Walk-in centres

Walk-in centres are open every day of the year. Sheffield's NHS walk-in centres are:

NHS Walk-in Centre / Sheffield City GP Health Centre (on Broad Lane) - open 8am - 10pm
Minor Injuries Unit (at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital) - open 8am - 8pm

GP (Doctor) / Nurse services

GP practices in Sheffield will be closed on Monday 29th August. Individual practices will inform patients if special arrangements need to be made to pick up prescriptions early prior to bank holidays.

If you or your family need medical attention when your GP practice is closed you can access the GP out of hours service. Just call your practice as usual and you will be automatically transferred to the service.

Dentists

Your dentist should be open during normal working hours over the easter and bank holidays period (excluding evenings, weekends & bank holidays). In the event of a dental emergency during normal opening hours please contact your dental practice first.

If you are unable to get an appointment with your dental practice or for dental emergencies during evenings, weekends and bank holidays please contact the Urgent Dental Care line on 0844 736 8440. The telephone service is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and provides a triage service and may offer you advice or an appointment.

Patients without an NHS dentist who need routine dental care should ring the dental helpline on 0114 305 1510. Patients are asked to leave their contact details on an answer-phone and they will be called back on the next business day with information on dentists taking on NHS patients in or near their area.

What to do in an emergency

An emergency is a situation where someone is experiencing a loss of consciousness, heavy bleeding, suspected broken bones, chest pain, breathing difficulties, an overdose, has swallowed something harmful, poisoning or has a deep wound.

If the situation is life threatening go to your nearest accident and emergency hospital or call 999.

Eye emergencies

An emergency eye care service is available at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital for adults only.

Children requiring emergency eye treatment should instead be taken to the Sheffield Children’s Hospital Emergency Department which is fully equipped to deal with children with eye problems.
