Emergency Contraception
If you have had sex without using contraception or your method might have failed, there are emergency methods available:
- emergency pills can be taken up to 120 hours after sex
- a coil (IUD) can be fitted up to 5 days after sex or later in some circumstances
- If it is more than 5 days after sex, contact the clinic for advice. It may be possible to insert a coil (IUCD) up to day 19 of your cycle
To get advice or discuss your situation either:
- visit the Sheffield Contraception & Sexual Health Service or
- see your GP or
- a GP willing to give Family Planning advice or
- the NHS Walk in Centre/ Sheffield City GP Health Centre on Broad lane (open 365 days a year)
