Sheffield Community Access & Interpreting Service
Want to be an interpreter?

About SCAIS

SCAIS is an interpreting and translation service hosted by Sheffield PCT. SCAIS provides interpreters for people whose first language is not English, to enable them to access services throughout South Yorkshire and beyond. We provide interpreters to work within the health service but also for other organisations such as solicitors, housing providers and benefits agencies. SCAIS has interpreters in 75 languages, and in 2009/10 organised over 34,000 interpreting sessions.

The Vacancy

Interpreters and translators are required to interpret for non-English speaking clients in a wide-range of settings including GP and dental surgeries, hospitals, solicitors' offices, court sessions, housing projects and benefits agencies. Interpreters must be fluent in both English and the language they interpret for.

Applicants must be punctual, flexible and reliable with a mature attitude and an appreciation for the importance of impartiality and confidentiality. Opportunities are available in Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley, Doncaster and Leeds as well as further afield. Knowledge of the location is important, as appointments may involve travelling to any part of the area. Own transport is an advantage, though not essential. Access to a mobile phone is desirable.
