August 2012
The NHS Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) will be holding a public meeting next month to explain who they are, what they do and what having GPs in charge of health services really means for you – and everyone is invited to attend.
Under the NHS reforms (Health and Social Care Act 2012) doctors will be in charge of funding the majority of health services in the city and the Sheffield CCG, who are getting ready to take up legal duties from 1st April 2013, want to both introduce themselves and update the public on their work so far.
Local GP and Chair of the group, Dr Tim Moorhead said:
“In October last year we took on control for 71%* of Sheffield’s healthcare budget which means that we now pay for services from hospitals, community, ambulance and mental health professionals for the use of our patients, the Sheffield population.
“As doctors, we speak to Sheffield people on a day to day basis and have first hand experience of what issues are important and matter to them. As an emerging organisation, with 10 family doctors on the committee, we feel that we have been able to use this experience in the development of our visions and values for the months ahead.
“A lot of hard work has taken place over the last 18months and now we would also like the public’s support as we move forward towards becoming an organisation in our own right.
“Both myself and members of the group will be on hand on the day to give presentations and take part in a question and answer session for anything people may wish to know.”
The meeting will take place between 2 and 4pm on Thursday 13th September in Sheffield Cathedral’s Domino Hall. (The best entrance to use is the one off Campo Lane but will be signposted on the day with people on hand to guide anyone who attends).
Anyone wishing to attend should contact Sophie Jones by email on sophie.jones6@nhs.net or call 0114 305 1089 and if you wish to submit a question to be answered by Tim or any other member of the group please let us know when you get in touch.
Copies of the Annual Report 2011/12 which covers both NHS Sheffield and the Sheffield CCG will also be available on the day.
