23rd August 2011
We want to encourage patients to think about their repeat prescriptions now, and highlight where to go and what to do if you get sick over the August bank holiday.
All GP practices in Sheffield will be closed on August bank holiday Monday (29th August 2011), with the exception of the NHS Walk in Centre/Sheffield City GP Health Centre on Broad Lane. Individual practices will inform patients if special arrangements are needed to pick up prescriptions early prior to the bank holiday.
To speak to a doctor out-of-hours phone your GP practice to be connected to the out-of hours service, which offers over the phone advice, or if appropriate urgent appointments or home visits.
Dr Jeremy Wight, Director of Public Health at NHS Sheffield said:
“If you do get ill over the bank holiday weekend it’s important to know what services are open and to think about which will be the best service for you.
“You can still phone your GP practice when it’s closed as your GP practice answer-phone will direct you to other services available. You can also phone NHS Direct on 0845 46 47, or visit a pharmacist for expert advice on treating everyday ailments.
“There are two NHS Walk-in centres in Sheffield – the NHS Walk-in centre on Broad Lane and the Minor Injuries Unit (for over 16’s) at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. Anyone can go along and no is appointment necessary, and both are open every day of the year, including the bank holidays.”
