Mental health problems are common. However, people often have little understanding of mental health or mental health problems, although they are aware of the associated stigma. Some people may lack the insight to realise that they need help or that help is available, or if they come across someone who is suffering with a mental health problem they may not know how to respond. Mental Health First Aid training can help.
Mental Health First Aid is the help given to someone experiencing a mental health problem before professional help is obtained.

If you live or work/volunteer in Sheffield you can apply to attend this free course. It is taught over 2 full days, 9.30 am - 4.30 pm, it is essential to attend both days. Courses have been organised in collaboration between NHS Sheffield, Sheffield City Council, Sheffield Health and Social Care Trust and Charlie Waller Memorial Trust. The following dates are available in 2012:
• 23 & 24 April at Brockwood Park Training Centre
• 9 & 10 May at Firth Park Clinic
• 19 & 20 June at Firth Park Clinic
• 21 & 22 June at Brockwood Park Training Centre
• 9 & 10 July at Brockwood Park Training Centre
• 11 & 12 September at Firth Park Clinic
• 2 & 3 October at Fulwood House
There is no charge for the training, but a charge will be made if you fail to attend.
We may limit the number of places available to an individual organisation depending on the level of interest.
