Literature Searches
If you are working in a particular subject area and would like to know about the books and journal articles which have been written on the topic, you may wish to carry out a literature search. You can:
- Carry out your own literature search
- Request library staff to carry out the search on your behalf
- Carry out the search alongside a member of library staff. If you are unfamiliar with literature searching but you would like to be able to do it yourself, this is a good way to learn.
If you are involving library staff in your search, you will need to complete a literature search request form (192kb Word, opens in a new window). This will help formulate your ideas for the search and enable library staff to get a full picture of what you require. If you decide to carry out the search yourself you may find it useful to use the form anyway to clarify what you wish to search on.

Once your literature search has been completed, if you wish to read any of the books and articles, the library can obtain these on your behalf.
