Best Practice for Administration from Multi-Use Vials
Following the introduction of the multi-dose Pandemrix® swine flu vaccine, the Medicines Management Team have produced a good practice protocol. This should assist in ensuring that multi-use vials are used safely and reduce the risk of cross-infection. One of the key factors in the procedure is that the vials are clearly labelled with the time and date of first use and the expiry date. Where this information is not present, the vial should be discarded at subsequent use to avoid the error of administering after its expiry date.
The procedure has been distributed via the GP e-bulletin and can be accessed on the NHS Sheffield intranet at: Best Practice for Administration from Multi-Use Vials (16kb pdf) Added: March 2010
