If you or your family need medical attention when your GP practice is closed you can access the GP out of hours service. Just call your practice as usual and you will be automatically transferred to the service.
A qualified health advisor will advise you on an appropriate course of action. Your own GP will be told what has happened as soon as the surgery re-opens.
How to use the GP out of hours service
After speaking to the nurse/ doctor on the phone you may be asked to attend one of the primary care centres to see a nurse or doctor. There are 2 centres in Sheffield:
Directions for GP Collaborative at the Northern General Hospital
Weekdays: 6:30pm - 8am the following morning
Weekends: 6:30pm Friday - all day Saturday - all day Sunday - closes 8am Monday
We are also open on Bank Holidays and during holiday periods when surgeries are closed.
Not all surgeries transfer responsibility to the Out of Hours service at the same time so please ring your surgery number to get the appropriate advice.
At all other times a telephone answering service is provided.
