Equality & Diversity
Overall Objectives of our Single Equality Scheme

  • Provide Leadership and Embed Equality and Diversity through commissioning, procurement and contract monitoring.
  • Ensure the Single Equality Scheme action plan is delivered within the context of national standards
  • Deliver national NHS commitments and the NHS Sheffield Strategy, Achieving Balanced Health, to address inequalities in health
  • Maximise inclusive consultation and engagement with local populations staff and clinicians
  • Address diversity in relation to employment and training
  • Maintain effective partnership working

Actions:

1. Include E&D in the following: (embedding in mainstream processes)

  • Annual Report, strategic plans as articulated in ABH3 and 4
  • organisational response to Vital Signs and the Operating Framework
  • World Class Commissioning Framework.

2. Improve data collection on E&D:

  • Staff survey
  • Employment data
  • Incidents; complaints and feedback from patients;
  • Access monitoring

3. Encourage Positive engagement   and Partnership working with:

  • Voluntary sector organisations
  • Community groups and individuals
  • Clinical staff
  • GP consortia
  • Partnership Boards for learning disability, mental health, physical, sensory and cognitive impairment and for older people

4. Develop population statistics and Health Needs Assessments:

  • Using the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment
  • Equality Impact Assessments to identify and address inequality relating to diversity

5. Ensure commissioning processes include E&D approaches:

  • Specifications, tenders and contracts
  • Monitor providers for contract compliance

6. Ensure diversity champions exist within each Directorate:

  • Executive leadership for E&D and sign off for Equality Impact Assessments
  • Each Directorate has an Equality and Diversity representative and champion

7. Implement public health programmes and Commissioning strategies:

  • Pacesetters
  • Enhanced Public Health Programmes
  • Specific strategies e.g. long term neurological conditions plan; learning disability investment plans; mental health service redesign; intermediate care service, stroke pathway redesign

8. Ensure we implement safeguarding procedures:

  • Executive director leadership and membership of Safeguarding Partnerships
  • Training of front line staff and managers

9. Accessible communication and information

  • Work with local organisations to provide and produce appropriate materials for briefing.
  • Proactive communication briefings through identified community groups e.g. Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind; Talking News; Sheffield Centre for Inclusive Living

  • Equality Impact assessments
  • Induction
  • Essential awareness training
  • E-learning
