Equality Impact Assessment (EIA) is a tool for systematically considering the actual or potential impact of any policy/strategy/service/practice on certain communities in order to mitigate or eliminate any negative impact and maximise positive impacts or opportunities for promoting equality. The six areas that are considered are gender (including transgender), age, race, disability, sexual orientation and religion/belief. An action plan is developed in the light of the EIA.
